Just wondering what braid people are using that are a thin diameter. Looking at a rainbow braid but also want to get maximum capacity on my reel for deep drops. Was going to put whiplash on but also want to use the reel for livebaiting and jigging so hence the rainbow braid. Looking at 65lb or PE5. Something that comes in a 5-600m spool.  Keen to hear what people are running.

Hi Jono, had the same idea as you. Went with the Jigstar braid in the end....only a little thicker diameter than the whiplash which is one of the thinnest aye. Got mine from Kane at Decoro to put on the accurate pitbull 600n. About 450m of 80lb on there.

Rovex do a 50lb braid at 0.34mm or an 80lb at 0.38mm.
I am using the 80ld and it is beautiful and smooth - I think it might be waxed. It is an 8 weave braid as well.
Very happy with the stuff.

I really like the Gosen braid that Greg from GoFish brings in.

Hi PE Pete,
How do the diameters compare. I'm always looking for thinner braid for my accurate narrow reel.

Jono, you should be wary of picking purely on line diameter. Thin lines have less abrasion resistance and tend to be expensive too. It doesn't take much to nick a line and suddenly use lose 100m or so. These days I take into consideration diameter, strength and durability. If you want line capacity, buy a larger reel.
I know this is not helpful to you but I've gone through this before and now do the sensible thing.

Jono, I have a Accurate 600N which I spooled up with orange 65lb Whiplash, I got 700m on the reel, I use this reel for all my deep dropping for bluenose plus jigging and live baiting. What I also did was marked every 10m with black indelible pen, bought a cheap line counter off trademe to measure the 10m lengths. With orange braid the black marks (about 10cm long) stick out like dogs balls so it is just the same as using rainbow braid, very easy to lift it up a set distance or down a set distance.

Hi Jim, i can't remember the exact diameter but you can get exactly 300m spool of PE8 100lb on an Accurate 600nn.
The other reason I use Gosen is based on my experience in March last year when I hooked a Marlin which ended up tail wrapped not the leader but the braid. It remained that way for a good 20 mins until our skipper drove round in two circles to undo the wrapped line. The whole time this was going on I was expecting the braid to giveaway but it didn't & an hour latter I landed the fish, 109kg Strip Marlin. How many braids would have handled that?

PE Pete behind the pointy bit of a marlin there is nothing sharp or rough to fray/break the line so I would not have expected the braid to have given way if the fish was tail wrapped. I have caught been involved in the capture of a number of tail wrapped marlin and the trace where it is wrapped is never deteriorated just goes a milky colour from the rubbing on the soft skin.

By the way good going on the marlin on that gear.

Fair call bro but a big difference between leader of any weight & braid under load but to be honest the Gosen is also well priced & I like dealing with Greg cause he's always bringing in new products & he's a good bugger.
I even use it for all my casting reels even though it's branded as jigging braid.
Just my opinion tho!

As Pete said, Gosen, it is smooth as silk, thin and strong. That means less drag in the water. You only have to try it to appreciate the true value this braid offers.

Wow vance, that sounds like a pretty dedicated effort, especially when there is 700m on there, I am guessing you needed a few markers LOL.

I ended up finding a lower budget 8 strnad braid which fitted the bill, as much as the goosen looked nice, to buy 1000m of it would have meant 2 minute noodles for the kids for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully I don't regret my decision.

Jono I have an old senator 9/0 which I use to transfer line to my bigger reels under tension. I got Kane at Decoro to put 700m of braid on that reel then I transfer it to the 600N, yes it did take a while stopping every 10m and marking it (I had 3 marker pens which I rotated through as they tended to dry out a bit after 5 minutes or so of use). it took me about an hour to do it all. But what is time in the evening when the Mrs is watching Shorty St. and some other rubbish after that.

The new Shimano Ocea EX8 braid is ridiculously thin and smooth. Pricey though.
