I pmed you. Appreciate the help. Wish I was in NZ. Just wondering so the only reason why an ARB in the Accurate would fail is from corrosion? It would not fail from let's say fishing 15KG of drag at full? Also why are the Maxels/JMs rated for so much higher drag? That has me puzzled. |
Hi, yep have replied to the PM. I believe it fails due to water getting in and flushing the oil out, this stops the rollers working how they should. No it does not fail because of 15plus kg of drag. No fails over the past 5-6 years with the seal kit. There are different ways of stating drag out puts, Total max drag and safe working load. Accurate prefer to state a safe working drag, I.e at 15kg the reel can run red hot day in day out and stay smooth, mint and reliable. At the end of the day you can pretty much lock the spools up if you want to. We need to remember we are trying to land fish not rip their lips off. A slipping drag is a good thing it is the give in the system. Remember to get a spool running line out at 15kg the shock load right before the spool starts turning can be 4-5 times that of the drag setting, the higher the drag setting the higher the shock load. Personally I don't fish anything over 15kg on 37kg line, the reality is something else in the system will give, i.e, fishs face, leader knots/hooks etc. I believe there is marketing hype behind a lot of these drag rating out puts. Both the other reel brands quoted are copies of the Boss Magnum Accurates (now old models) they never state how smooth or reliable these reels are at these so called settings. At the end of the day all three brands stated can all pull 15kg which is fine on a 37kg line. I will say just to finish, the Accurate has a sealed drag system the other two don't, the dryer system will be the smoother more reliable one long term. Hope this helps.
