Hi guys

Im wondering why sea anchors are not tied off from the front of the boat ?

as far as I am aware they are used that way on yachts so why does everyone seem to put them off the back corner and drift in a cockeyed line with the waves pushing the transom and the wind catching the cabin?

wont the boat catch less wind front on and the bow will cut thru any waves better?

from the bow makes it a bit harder to fish. unless you have a centre console. from the stern lets your lines run out the back.

I think it really depends on how you want your boat to sit while you are fishing.  The Big Angry Fish Team put up a really good explanation on their website recently (see http://bigangryfish.tv/how-to-use-a-drift-chute" rel="nofollow - here )

[Edit]
But on some boats it can be very time consuming getting up "forrard" to deploy a sea anchor ..... so mostly we tend to attach it to the transom where we can also keep an eye on it while fishing.
However if caught in a storm and no practical way to run for shelter, you might choose to ride it out.  Then you would definitely tie the sea anchor off at the bow of the boat to keep the bow into the wind and waves.

for casting ahead soft baiting it seems to make perfect sense but yea if you wanted to drag say a lure along the bottom behind you while softbaiting you would have difficulty
suppose Ill just have to try it out

cabin boat mostly from the back - if waves start coming over the back its time to go home. from the transom you get a V type fishing area and gives good visual on your fishing.
If tied from the front you get better boat keeping as mentioned above storms etc but your lines run down and rub along your hull and your rod holders are pointing the wrong way, if like me have 4-6 rods out at one time.

The best way to do it is to bridle it so you can adjust the angle of your boat to whatever you want when drifting

do you have a picture of a bridle set up?
Iv seen the running rigs but only for kayaks

Sometimes I find the sea anchor pulls the back of the boat into the face of the next wave when in the trough of the wave, its not exactly rough its just the boats designed to go the other way into waves, not backwards

i tryed it on the front of the boat off my anchor and it made the boat drift allmost side on to the current, possibly due to wind
was odd either way, I think Ill be going back to the transom from now on
