Doing a bit of research for reasonably priced jigging and live bait combos for the yak. Anyone know much about the Fin-Nor Lethal overheads, I know zip about this style of reel so input would be welcomed from those in the know?

| I had a Fin Nor 16l on a jigstar for my first jigging setup. It lasted me well with heaps of kingfish upto 20kg caught never had any issues with the reel. Think the lethal is pretty much the same reel. Different color way and higher ratio. Would reccomend the 16L offshore. Awesome value for money. I got around the 13kg of drag out of mine |

I have a 30 size lethal I cast with. Also an Offshore 16L with heavy braid. Used both for livebaiting. Good drag is first thing that comes to mind. Main difference from the older offshores is no low gear models and the ceramic bearings which are a big help for distance casting. The offshore brakes heavily. Comes with extra brakes you can double up if just lobbing livies and not confident with a big overhead. The 6.2:1 ratio has an awfully fast retrieve with such a big spool. 4.3:1 Offshores are still floating around some shops. |

| I guess being on a kayak I'm going to be limited in the amount of drag I can make use of anyway. So what sort of ratio should I be looking at for jigging, by that I guess I mean what is too high? |

take a look at the Penn Fathom 25n lever drag combos. very good design and greased carbon drags out of the box. sharp price too!

From some US forum I heard that Fin Nor Lethal overhead is upgraded version of their former offshores, but with better anodised anti-corrosion finish. Basically the same reels. I just bought a new Fin Nor ltc16h, and it feels solid. Haven't fished with it yet, but again, heard from some US forum that it is a tough reel. But since it has brass pinion gear, it is not good for sharking fishing ( one guy reported that, after landed several sharks around 100kg mark, the brass pinion gear showed severe wear and was failing). So I think it won't be a problem for our kingies. My LTC16H has a slight backplay, while the Penn fathom 25N star drag I tried has no noticeable backplay. Fathom is much lighter. I think both of them are good reels when fishing from kayaks. |
