Just started some training to get into spear fishing....

last 2 times at the pool my left eye area feels like my eyes gonna pop or bleed and have had pain localised in that area ... only been going to 1.8m deep in the pool so am i doing something wrong ? mask too tight ? sinus issues ? any ideas or similar experiences ?

Sounds stupid, but – did you equalise your mask?

I had that once. Turns out that getting amped on bzp, pot and shots then picking a fight with 3 maoris isn't so smart. True story.

Your problem is most likely blocked sinuses though. It's like an expanding ball of needles as you go deeper? The passages need a good clean out with decongestants and snorting salt water.

I've had the same issue twice before, both times I woke up the next day with a cold so I've just assumed it was to do with blocked sinuses.

Couldn't get past 1.5m without feeling like my eyes were going to explode out of my head.

Sounds like blocked Sinuses.
Give a Neti Pot a crack  http://www.webmd.com/allergies/sinus-pain-pressure-11/neti-pots?page=2

Few points:
- Make sure you boil the water (or if you have loads of $$ use Evian)
- Be careful using Decongestants when diving as if they wear off you can get reverse block and that is a real mofo,
- Otravin might seem like a good idea, it isn't, as long term use cab narrow your nasal passages which will make it worse!

Hope you come right soon

PS I had acupuncture done before the SIs, and was fine. It might just have cleared up by itself, says the sceptic...

It is a nasal rinse.  I used to have a lot of issues with hard to equalise sinuses, especially at about 10m. Bought a nasal rinse kit (I mixed my own salt into it rather than buy the kits)  and over time my sinuses came right. Thankfully hasnt been a problem of late.

More info can be found at:

A kit a mate of mine uses is http://www.neilmed.com/nz/sinusrinse_isotonic.php

Good luck

I'm suffering from this now. The dive was awesome - one of my better dives - with no issues equalising at the time, felt really comfortable in the water. Thinking it may have been due to some fast shallow dives for paua on our way back to the van.

First time it has happened to me, also first time diving with a new mask ... could that be a contributing factor?

going through the nasal rinse thing now, relief feels like its slowly coming on Dead
