It’s been 13 years since the first Saltiga Z overhead reels debuted in Japan. In the years since the reel has largely taken a backseat to the Saltiga spinning models which are preferred among jig game anglers in Japan. However, the recent boom in light tackle slow jigging, for which high capacity overhead reels are often utilized, has brought Daiwa back to the drawing table for an updated model with some pretty cool specs. FEATURES The New Saltiga overheads are built on machine cut aluminum bodies and will initially be released in May/June in 10 and 15 sizes, both normal (5.1) and high (6.4) gear. Left hand retrieve models will be offered from July, 2015. The bearings for the pinion gear assembly, which have in the past been prone to serious corrosive damage from salt exposure, are now housed using Daiwa’s Magseal system that was introduced on the 2010 Saltiga.
A new spool lock has been added which can be switched on to completely stop the spool from moving when anglers find they’ve caught bottom and need to dislodge or bust off their terminal tackle. This frees anglers from having to crank up their drag or use their fingers to stop the spool from moving. Daiwa’s new ATD (Automatic Drag) system, Hyper DigiGear and an adjustable handle arm are also utilized on this reel. This reel is going to be popular among offshore lure anglers. It’s MSRP is 44000 yen which means it’ll probably retail for around 40000 in tackle stores.
SPECS: | Model | Cm per crank | Gear | Max Drag (kg) | PE line Cap (m) | Handle length | Ball/roller bearings | | 10 | 80cm | 5.1 | 9 | 1-500, 1.5-400, 2-300, 2.5-250, 3-200 | 75-85mm | 8/1 | | 10H | 100cm | 6.4 | 8 | 1-500, 1.5-400, 2-300, 2.5-250, 3-200 | 75-85mm | 8/1 | | 10HL | 100cm | 6.4 | 8 | 1-500, 1.5-400, 2-300, 2.5-250, 3-200 | 75-85mm | 8/1 | | 15 | 80cm | 5.1 | 9 | 1-800, 1.5-600, 2-500, 2.5-400, 3-200 | 75-85mm | 8/1 | | 15H | 100cm | 6.4 | 8 | 1-800, 1.5-600, 2-500, 2.5-400, 3-200 | 75-85mm | 8/1 | | 15HL | 100cm | 6.4 | 8 | 1-800, 1.5-600, 2-500, 2.5-400, 3-200 | 75-85mm | 8/1 |

They are available for this season. Your local should be able to order them . Naturally they will be pricey being that they have a saltiga badge on them but damn they are nice little reels.

So these have been out for a while now anyone got one? To me all they seem good for is slow pitch to snapper / smaller kings etc. I mean you wouldn't use one at Three Kings, Ranfurly or White. So really Daiwa have not updated there bigger O/H jigging reels in ages now.
