hi all, this time last year I went from a Buccaneer 237 to a 5.5m Kingfisher and although apprehensive at first I love it. The Yami 115 4 stroke pushes it along beautifully and she's surprisingly stable when everyone wants to peer over the same side at the same time. Another thing that surprises me was how heavy it is to tow (I travel over the Kopu hill to Tairua/Pauanui), and I'd be interested in the thoughts of other owners or those who knew a little bit about the brand. Mine was built in 2001 and I think Kingfisher boats have changed hands since. Thinking about downgrading from my VX Cruiser so I'd be interested to know what others are using for tow vehicles. cheers Salty

Salty69, I had a Kingfisher 630 purchased new on 06, had 150 Honda on her, yes she was heavy as well but towed it up to Omaha a lot and to Tauranga, towed with a Prado and besides being a tad heavy was the best boat that I had and towed on a single axle, that was on a trailer made in Te Puke. I guess mine was heavy as I had 5mm hull and 4mm sides and deck when I ordered her. Best boat I had in NZ. I believe that they are still made to order in Tauranga but not 100% on that. Used to go out west thru the Manukau bar with ease. But it was sold in 2012 as I moved to Perth. A friend also had the same boat and he has upgraded to a trailer with duals and you don't even know that it is behind you [he has a Navara] That may be a thought for you Regards DD ------------- Remember: it's not a fish until it's landed |

Kingfisher boats are made in Tauranga. By a company called Alloy Cats/Kingfisher boats they have expanded there range, they might also make another popular brand of boat wont say which as i might be wrong. Boats are easy to find on the internet. | Hi salty, i am the (proud) new owner of delta dreams old kingfisher, i also tow this with a 97 3L TD prado.. it would weigh close to 2T with fuel and gear.. did a trip last year to tairua from stanmore bay with 4 guys full tank (180l) gear for a week etc... had adequate power so if your down sizing to any thing in the 3l range you will be fine.. |

cheers guys, none of the current team at Alloy Cats/Kingfisher boats were around at the time, but they sorted me out with someone who gave me a good insight - so big ups to them. Looks like the boats of that era were all custom built with about 20 5.5 'Strikers' and 30 - 50 6.3 'Strikers' produced. They have 5mm bottom, 4mm sides and 5mm transoms. Apparently each boat has a 'K' or 'KF' identification number on the engine bracket. Just giving the Cruiser a birthday present and will look at a few options. Cheers again guys.

| inersting to know cheers, they where very helpfull when i spoke to them regarding mod's.. how does the 5.5 ride in a following sea? i added trim tabbs to my 6.3 and its now a completly different ride (for the better) and much dryer.. |

| It came with Trim Tabs fitted so that was a bonus. She rides well both into and with the sea and being able to lift and drop the bow when you need sure makes things more comfortable. |

| Sweet as, they are a nice boat but was always a little bit unsure i had made the right choice (plann to keep boat for 6-8 years with young family) but thought tabs should sort it.. along with new targra top canopy/clears its now mint.. happy boating :) |
