When I wind up the drag at the beginning of the day, the drag releases easily for the first couple of drops then almost locks up. Once I back it off it works normally for the rest of the day. Then I wash the reel, and back the drag off until next time.

Does anybody else have a similar problem with Trinidad's?

Sounds like the dartanium (graphite) drag washers are sticking. Time to upgrade to Carbontex: http://www.smoothdrag.com/price.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.smoothdrag.com/price.html

THanks for the feedback Kikbac. I now have carbontex washers on their way. Does anybody use the strengthened drag plates that Cals does?

Yes, You wont get much increase in drag with just the carbontex washers, the cals drag plate doesnt flex and is able to exert more force = more drag....... Unfortunately for you they are no longer made, unless you can source some old stock.......Kaveman had some machined up and maybe able to assist you.

Carbontex are awesome, so smooth and they last forever(or closeLOL)

I did get some some prototype drag plates made but not a great demand so pulled the pin on doing a big run(costly exercise for the  small  number wanted)
If you can find some original Cals drag plates, they are the duck's nuts(i have them on both my 4000P and 5000P)
As Jason said, Cal has retired so no more available worldwide as far as i know
