Raised one up out at the Ranfurlys while I was stick baiting kings. First came the mohawk, then the bill, grabbed the lure and just as I went to set the hook........... no thanks . We did land a stripy the following day but that was off a trolled lure. Two weeks ago.

Yeap & I had two witnesses. Lance was on the flybridge & saw the whole thing go down. It took me well into the night to finally settle down on what could have been! .

great feel alright, get out over the Manukau bar sit in about 50 to 60mts of water and burley the buggers up, they come right up to the back of the boat but dont stay long if you have no lives or maybe a popper to excite them, we just caught kahawai from under the boat with pilchards then used those as burley and the odd one for a live bait.. sharks can be a problem but stick it out and a marlin will appear for sure....

Over the years and many thousand casts I have 4 times where marlin have come up on the Stickbaits whilst kingy fishing. So far though bugger it nine have ever hit the lures, one attack was up at the three kings and that time there was two fish trying to nail the lure but non succeeded. Have had a couple of what we assume we're blacks follow lures right to the boat here in the bay of plenty!!
