| Staying at hihi this weekend. Thinking of trying for a kingfish in the harbour on the kayak. Thought I would trawl for a kahawai then trawl the kahawai around for a kingi. Does anyone have any hints on where I should try in the harbour for the kahawai and kingfish. Cheers in advance |

Your better off paddling outside the harbour. You'll find a school of KY or Jacks. Find them an live bait in the school. look for the birds if you don't have a Sounder. |

Don't forget we have a 2 week rahui from Bergen's down to harbour entrance and likely another one being slapped on Coopers Beach Cable Bay coast any time soon. Just saying is all. Harbour fishing while patchy at best, can provide some really nice surprises. ------------- Sitndrinkntalknbullman |

nah mate it was lost, hooked on a Kahawai while fishing for Kings, they had it up to the boat 3 times, but the leader was too light and finally broke... ------------- Thanks for everything you did for us Eric. may you rest in peace, You were one of the real legends of NZ recreational fishing |

some other catches in the far North have been interesting as well like this report from Mark K, wa-hoooo! | From Hihi campground, walk around the waters edge to harbour entrance, its shallow water there & you want an outgoing with low tide around sunset, which would be good this weekend. Have caught some nice pannies off the rocks there.... tides are good this weekend, moon sort of ok |
