Hi all. Just put picked up a new 49g pink popper with the idea of using it on the boat and off oriental Bay Wellington when the big boil ups happen and kingis start turning up in decent numbers. These fish usually are only targeted with live baits and have seen people with live bait tanks in the back of their trucks solely to be used for this. Hopefully it will all work out with a kingi hooked up and no live baits required! If anyone can suggest some lures/ stick baits as well☺ Cheers |

The River to sea "Rover" are good too........the brown one looks like a baby blue cod and just give it stabs with your rod ....you will get a nice walk the dog action out of them.......if its a bit rough......use a river to sea "doggie".....the sardine one looks good enough to eat i reckon!.......they sink and plenty of kings have been taken on them. Rover(Has rattles inside/except the blue one for some reason) on top......2 doggies below........both should come with 3/0 owner trebles but i used 4/0 owner belly and inline 8/0 on tail with rover and it swam well...Both well priced....Good luck

| I'll be interested as to how you go Shinkicker. I understand most kings are caught near the bottom in WN harbour hence targeting them with livebaits on the bottom rather than near the top. Might be worth adding a sinking stickbait or diver (of some sort) to your collection. Good luck! |

| I've tried stick baiting a few times off Oriental Bay wall and I find it very difficult to get the lures swimming properly. Unfortunately the platform you are fishing from is too high above the surface of the water. You will find yourself pulling the lure out of the water quite a lot. Either that our you will run out of room for sweeping the rod if you try to keep the rod down below the wall level. You will find it a lot easier if you can get on the rocks further along towards the point, but those spots are at a premium. Crank baits are a better option off the wall. |

Mate. If you were fishing the orange stickie over the last couple days at O Bay then I suggest you have chosen well. Else if not,. An Indian/Sri Lankan/Pakistan looking gentleman with a couple kids in tow got a wee rat on the corner by slinging a white/orange stickie I didn't see the strike but peripherally, even so it was a vigorous splash. This after a couple hours casting up and down the parade. Good work. I took out a couple of home made lures in preparation of a wee trip I am taking soon. This to remind myself how to rig them (All trebles and split rings removed for winter. First cast a bloody seagull swooped and grabbed the lure. Whilst swimming it. Guess that means it is either very life-like or just looks like trash ------------- "You don't have to be smart to laugh at a fart, but you have to be stupid not to." |
