Had a superb day out casting poppers with my mate. Very quiet until late afternoon when i hooked up on a massive GT. He missid the popper the first time but turned around and take it right down its gob and game on. Using my favourite Daiwa Demon Blood and Shimano 10 000 Twin Power with a JM 16000 spool i cranked up the drag way past what i normally do as this fish just kept going.
A very loud snap and crack follows and the rod split in two at the join.
I manage to grab the front section before it disappears and my mate in turn grab it from me. Super action ann fast thinking from himClap He now hold the front section with his hands and i wind from the back. With lots of luck and team work, he pump with the rod and i wind we manage to bring the fish up. He was already bleeding from the gills so in goes the gaff and i am now member of my own 100lb club.Big smileBig smile

Well done both of you, good effort!

Yip i am gutted. One of the best rods i ever used, and the lightest. I have some very expensive rods but i take this one 95% of the time but i guess it had enough of the GT's nowLOL

What was the popper?

It's a Strada from Hunting and Fishing. Only $30 and that the only one's i use now. Got to replace the hooks with some Owners. May one or two fish on the original hooks but throw them away after that. I learned the hard way. That poppers a little heavier than the Halco Roostas but $20 cheaper and the cast like a bullet. Believe it or not i fish mine with stick bait rods and out fish my friends every time. No need for a dedicated popper rod.

Do you still use your Topshot Lalandi saffayakker?.......good excuse too now!
Did you have the dual tip.......one lalandi and the other one a popping tip?

Yes mate. I recently pair it up with a Stella 10 000PG and found the set up hard to beat. I almost said it the ultimate set up. I caught this estimated 70lb Gt on Saturday. Look the lovely bend, lol.

my bucket list is to just catch a GT let alone break a rod on one...Big smile
great team work ..   on an amazing fish..  im trying to imagine a guy pumping half a rod and another guy winding the line in keeping  the weight on  ..  think it helped somewhat that he had the whole of the lure in his gob ..  would have made an amazing video watching  Clap

edit::   yes nice setup an nice bend...  and another stonking good fish ..
