Any location tips for a top water novice going to Tairua for the weekend?

Was thinking Castle Rock or the Sugar Loafs to see if there are any surface schools working.

Do Albacore eat stick baits?

Cheers

Ted

mcgregors  rock at the aldies can be real good, also the kingies are up high on the pins round the aldermens at the moment so stick baiting over them is worth a go.

Albies eat rapalas and cedar plugs for breakfast - no reason they wouldn't take a stick bait

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies.

Dads chart plotter was playing up so I just had a chuck around the Sugar Loafs and King Rocks for no result in between some bottom fishing.

Cheers

both those spots are worth trying and have good kings there on stick baits at times.

Worth chucking stick baits anywhere from the wharf out, anywhere there is bait (piper, kahawai, macs, trevs, kohies) .  the safe water mark outside the bar often has kings on it.

reefs south of pauanui and north of tairua beach have some good kings on them at times on stick baits, spec when there are good schools of jac macs there.

north end of shoe, north end of slipper and north end of king rock, all when there is some northerly current.

north w end of flat(first island at the aldies) around the kohie schools. macgregors rock.

been the odd bust up out on the deep pins already and some days where the kings have been smashing lures high in the water column, but the water still has to warm up a touch and those still weeks where the kings fire up on the surface big time are a few weeks late coming.
