For a very broad overview try http://www.bom.gov.au">www.bom.gov.au use their search box and type in sst browse. I just had a look and they have a map from24th aug. Picture shows whole of aussie and nz, detail is a bit lean but looks like there is 17 degrees 50 to 100 miles east of north cape. I could be wrong...

really good temp break off cairns...goes from 18 to 23 in a flash

Just had a look up north of NZ and the warm water is there and the commercial boats are moving south. This could be the start of an early year. Finish,with SBF off the West coast,and a couple of month later into Tuna and Marlin off the North Cape.

YES!!!! You could be looking at almost 12 months of game fishing in NZ water.

They are hooking lots of big piper (black Marlin) to 40kgs off brisbane at the moment. I'm lookingb to fish Port Stephens again from Nov through to April for the blacks & stripes. Last Feb we tagged 15 fish in 4 days. All except 1 were Blacks. Most of them were between 50 & 120 kgs. The biggest went about 250kgs and the stripie was about 140kgs. All on 200mm live slimies nose hooked an fishing 2 rods only.

Yeah i live in between port stephens & sydney. The catch the blacks just off morton island and all along the gold coast seaway. Morton is similar distance from russel to capebrett. They get sails, blacks, wahoo,yellow fin etc. i fished there in Jan for several small blacks. They use small lures like micro cockroach, uzi (Pakulas) etc or piper insinde skirts. Also a fair bit of live bait with slimies. One boat got a double of sails yesterday biggest went 2.3m. Thats one good sized bit of cat food. Here the water is about 20-60meters.

We get heaps of small to med blacks of Port Stephens starting nov, but full on from Jan. We got 15 in 2 weekends in Feb all on trolling 2 livies at a time over huge schools of slimies. Most go 40 to 90kg but then the occasional ones will come in around 200 plus size so most tackle for contest is 15 to 37. Way over kill for the small ones but gives the safety factor on the big mummas. The Striped marlin are bigger in size about 80 to 130kg. Like our ones over there. Off Port you can catch them off the rocks or out to the shelf about 15 miles. I was jigging livies in 300m then slow trolling them on the surface for big stripies. The next day we were in 60m with tailers every where. But then I still feel we have a great fishery over there with our great snapper fishery even though the govt is trying to kill it!!! We can got out for a snapper in the morning then jump over to the west coast for a marlin, tuna fish in the arvo. Up north you have it even better. The Bay, Wakatane, Whangaroa are world beating for fish and crays. Plus the sharks don't bite as much.

that sounds wicked mate....im living in oz to..noosa. i have been lived up in takou bay/whangaroa most of my life and im super amped on game fishing!!

so me and me mate have got us a little boat and are keen to go slay them off noosa somewhere..if they are getting marlin off brizzy them they must be off noosa...however i work in the mines on a 7 on 7 off roster so that gives me plenty of fishing time.so if you are ever up these ways give us a pm and we shall go slay....i wonder if there are many forum members in oz???who are keen to do the same.

     I'm heading over to Mooloolaba/Noosa for a visit at the start of Next month.  Any recommendations on where/who to fish with over there or even just a club to have a beer at.  Are the bottom bouncing charters worthwhile from there?  I'm with my extended family so it'll be at least three blokes fishing.

I'm live in Brisbane, and am a member of the Sunshine Coast GFC, based at Mooloolaba. At the moment, the sailfish are starting to make an appearence at our grounds from 8-21 miles out. Down the gold coast there is a few fish on 'Spot X', about 25 miles out, and also a few blues out at the shelf. It seems if you find the bait, there is a fish or two to be had. kelpsta, if you're not doing anything this weekend you should come down to mooloolaba one of the afternoons. We've got our Sailfish Shootout tournament this weekend, and everyone from the club will be there.
