I havent got the money for creme de la creme, but I got $1000 to spend on a land based stick bait set up. Looking for tried and true set ups that have worked for you. God forbid, it may not even cost anywhere near that. BONUS I already have a kilwell lime tip 10-15kg which is my go to rod for straylining, looking for something to have at the ready when a kingy shows up. Any help appreciated.

Daiwa Saltist? 4500(10kg drag) or 6500(15kg drag). 6.2:1 ratio which is 53" on the 6500. I landed one recently for $300 nzd but there have been quite a few on Tardme recently. Good drag and fast retrieve but not so expensive that you'd hate yourself if it got rock rash.
Another option are the older Stradic 8000Fi. Definitely lighter than the Saltist, 13kg drag and 5.7:1 ratio, and they came with a spare spool... There's one on Tradey for $275.
Either way would still leave $600 plus for a rod and I think you're probably going to get a better setup spending more money in this area.

Preemo mid range set right there…..that new BBE Topwater is a honey of a rod….A few of us here at Shimano NZ spent a good many hours dedicated to getting that one as right as possible given "price point" restraints……we're happy!

We start shifting in a couple of weeks. I wont be at the Snapper 1000, got the Sika Show in Taupo. Then off to Aussie for a couple of maintenance Shuts. Come November, its on!I am going to FCO club night tomorrow night and gonna slip in a stick bait session first, then a quickie in the morning before work

Well after a bit of research and talking to some more experienced members on this forum I went for the Shimano BBE/Saragosa combo. Thanks to everyone who PM'ed and those that answered my questions.

BBE PE5-8 8'3" 2PCE TOPWATER vs TDRV230 - SPIN STICKBAIT 10/24 2PCE - which is a better rod for casting land based?
Am also looking for a new rod for myself to be more general purpose I guess for straylining, popping, stickbaiting, live baiting, etc from the rocks to run a saragosa 10000 with 2 spools of braid, 1 x 15ish kg and 1 x 24kg
have been looking at both rods for a while now but still can't decide on one or the other

Hi Kaimaikid. I pondered over this too. I have a Kilwell 10-15 limetip with a baitrunner for straylining and use a new BBE for topwater. I didnt want one rod to cover all as luck always has it, when you have a fillet of Kahawai out for XOS snapper, a friggin king cruises past. So I wanted a seperate rod specifically for casting to kings.

There's a brand new Stella, Terez, Braid and lures combo on Trademe for $1200 bid. Someone won a prize.
Closes later today.

I must admit that I am impressed how well the T-Curve Revo casts - getting some good distance with it - now to fight a fish....

A good second hand dedicated stickbait rod & one of the new Saragosa range to suit the line class of the rod would be my pick. That only works if you have the time or patience to wait for the right rod to come up second hand. Good luck it's a lot of fun watching Kings raging after your stickbait

The Saragosa SW is a quality entry level reel, currently running a 6K for a PE3 outfit and can't fault it.

A mate has the Fin Nor lethal 100 reel - said that it was built like a Russian tank, solid as but certainly no frills
http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/lth10.html
is a report on them
I use a Saragosa 10000 SW myself and that is a very smooth nice reel
