THE JOB IS ON!!!!!
The tournament will be
the same format as last year with ridiculously hot prizes for the Kingfish
Release Sections (1st-5th), Woman’s, Heaviest Other Species and Most Unusual.
There will still be a Kingfish Weigh Section, however fish must be 1200mm to
qualify. More sponsors has meant a boosted prize pool for the Release Kingfish
Junior Section, so let’s get the grommets off the play stations and out
there!!!!
PLUS new for 2014 is
the inclusion of a Micro Jigging Section (<80g jigs) for released Snapper.
Please support as many
of the sponsors as possible! All have contributed generously to help deliver a
kick ass event!!!!
All entries are through
the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club. Entry forms available from the TSFC website
from Wednesday.
I'm pumped for this one! Give us a bell if you guys have any questions. Cheers Roly 021702248.

Right lads and laddesses
I thought i would slap up what we (Assassin) and Hitter Lures are putting up for the COMP.
We will be spot prizing a few pairs of gloves in the starter packs along with a few pairs for placed anglers.
For the lures we will be putting up a "KINGFISH" hand painted stick bait VALUED at $350 NZD (unsure on how to win this item as of yet) along with a couple of spot prized lures (size, colour and styles to be confirmed yet) and possibly placed anglers also.
We were blown away with the main stick bait when it turned up that we want to show you what you are possibly in to win.

Synit will have a section of Jigging rods from Mechanical to Slow Pitch Long Fall at this years comp. If you don't win one then be sure to check these out as all will be for sale at the Friday briefing and the Sunday prize giving.
Synit has kitted out the entire 3 boat Synit/Assassin Team with demo rods and all of these bar one will also be sold off at hugely reduced prices at the conclusion of the comp.

Hi Guys, Forecast is fishable but pretty bumpy looking at this stage. I'll be looking to postpone to late Jan if the wx deteriorates. We won't lucky draw prizes, prizes this good need to be earned:)
Here a bit of a teaser of what e are looking at...
Measure & Release - Fish must be released in good condition. 1st Stella 20k + Ocea Plugger Popper Rod (the only one in NZ!) 2nd Stella 8000swbhg + Synit Van Diaman MaxC 3rd Trini 16N + JigStar Twisted Sista PE3-6 4th Talica 12 + Synit Razar 225 MaxC 180-400g 5th Trinidad 16N + Synit Razar 225 PE3-6 6th Saragosa 10000 + Backbone 8' Popper
Weigh Section (min size 1.2) 1st Synit Razar 225 MaxC PE3-6 180-400g 2nd Torium 16N + Backbone 3rd Spheros 20k Weigh prizes will become Release prizes if no fish are weighed.
Longest Released Snapper Micro Jig Section - Ocea 1500PG + PE2 Grappler (JDM Product) Garmin Hero Shot - Best Kingfish Photo!! - Garmin 10" Sounder/Plotter unit.
Most Unusual - Mammoth Chilly bin Heaviest Other - Bradley Original Smoker Longest Kingfish Junior 1st Stradic 8000 + Terez 30-50lb 2nd Shimano Sport Camera As fish are being released there is no min size, so we have land based juniors giving it heaps this year too!!! (one prize per junior) Longest Kingfish Womans - Synit Kaha K2M + Trini 12A.
All major prizes come with mega accessories!! This is what we are looking at right now, but this will could change depending on how the comp is supported angler wise.
Loads of stuff in the starter packs too if you are in the first 100, including random prizes including charter trips with Tzer Fishing Charters, Offshore Adventures, Coastal Fishing and Nomad plus stickbaits from Hitter Lures, Duo terminal from Jig Star and Oishi. NZ BayFisher mag and subs, McDonald vouchers, measure boards plus heaps more!!
Loads of Spot prizes including Synit Kaha K2M PE3-5 150-350g, and stupid amounts of shimano accessories, saltfree, Mobil oil, Mills Reef wine, Assasin gloves, Sport Cameras, Kingi slings, Russler scales and jigs, Diamond Fusion etc etc...too much to mention!
Huge props to all of the sponsors of the tournament who every year spoil the competitors rotten! Please take a note of the sponsors and support them.
There is also the option to work in with Blue Water research and record fish info for their Kingfish project plus all fish caught are eligible for the DB Export NZ Fishing Competition being run by Fishing Website.
Tickets are still available from the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club so get into it! We have made it well worth your while. Pray for the weather and big fish. I'll be in touch tomorrow.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention Hitter Lures have had a one off custom lure made for the Tournament. This will be awarded to the Longest Kingfish (Measure & Released) caught on a Topwater lure. this is valued at $350 due to the detail in the paint work and truly a work of art. I dont think I could bring myself to cast a bait like this....

Hi Guys and Gals,
We have decided to postpone the Tournament. Please know this decision was not taken lightly as we understand how keen everyone is to do this event and the efforts, plans and expense some have gone to. However the winds this weekend are forecast to get to a level that will be uncomfortable and represent a unacceptable risk to smaller vessels offshore.
The new date is the 31st Jan /2nd Feb....we may need a Stickbait Marlin section!! Tickets still available through the Tauranga Sport Fishing Club.
Thanks for your patience everyone. No one is more frustrated than me I can assure you!

New research project to help monitor kingfish stocks.
Recreational fishers catch all sizes of kingfish from the available population form juveniles to the largest adults. Currently the best way to monitor kingfish stocks is to collect heaps of individual fish lengths from the recreational fishery and convert these to catch-at age data.
Fishers in the Top Catch Heavy Metal Jigging and Casting Tournament will be provided with information and a data sheet in their starter packs. This is a great opportunity to sample a large number of fish from the Bay of Plenty population at one time. The project is being run by Blue Water Marine Research and NIWA over the next 6 months. This is part of the five yearly “warrant of fitness” for kingfish stocks funded by MPI.
We are asking contestants to use the Form in the starter packs to record the length of all kingfish greater than 65 cm you catch. Photos are not required for non-contest fish. Please hand the forms into the club at the weigh in/measure in. Thanks
