yep saw it on the news and wondered why.
In fact wondered a bit more than why.
Where's Graham McCready, this would be a better case for him

On the surface it looks damn rotten, however you'd need to know a lot more about the case than we would see in media reportage before you can make a decent judgement, you can only hope the judge has had that info. Should the verdict be because of political correctness, then that sucks, but if it is a case of disproportionate punishment for a relatively minor offence, then fair enough.

I don't call being stoped when driving and being double the drink drive limit a "minor" offence. If you or I were in the same position we would, quite rightly, lose our licence. I don't care who's son he is, the law is the law.

Agree Kevin. Neither would i call drink driving, burglery and theft minor offences. Something not right here

Yes, I wrote that wrong. I mean't to say anyone else would have been prosecuted. Who you are should not affect the treatment you get in court.

COME ON GUYS KNOW THE FACTS 1ST his co-offenders got away with a warning so why should this be any different yes to DIC but without convicting them all for the same crime it is a little unfair, my wife a Maori was disgusted with this finding and we had a wee arguent about it, I dont condone it believe me but fairs fair and it was not because he is a potential king eith but in saying that he is a legend half god half wit, what a role model for his proposed potential

His co-offenders were not on bail at the time they stole other peoples stuff. This little criminal was on bail already when he continued to show utter contempt for the law and other people by continuing to break the law!
That's is the difference between him and the others. Will you be so understanding if it's your family he kills on the roads, or your house he breaks into to take your possessions.
Little criminal needs to learn their are consequences for his actions before he succeeds in ruining other peoples lives, regardless of who his father is!

The laws of this country should apply equally to everyone who lives/visits here. When the person involved has previously been found to have infringed and is already under bail conditions but offends again, a slap on the hand with a wet bus ticket because of societal position just doesn't cut it IMO.....

In 2011, Paki faced boy-racer charges after the Mitsubishi Lancer he drove lost traction and crashed into a power pole in Huntly. Witnesses said he was lucky to survive. http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/10009594/Maori-Kings-son-faces-consequences
well not his first offence

Must be his first offence pjc. He isn't allowed to have any criminal history because then he can't be King.
I have been having a quiet chuckle over this one. So the Kings representatives (or whoever they are) convince the judge that Paki won't be able to be King if he isn't purer than driven snow. What I haven't quite worked out though is how the lack of a recorded conviction changes anything that the little bugger has done. That's like saying a thief isn't a thief unless he gets caught. Well we all know that ain't right, so why is this any different. Seems like just a gullible, over PC judge doesn't it?

That's EXACTLY why he didn't have a conviction recorded. The judge said as much. Wrong if you ask me - especially as he was on bail at the time.

Well, his defense team got him off this once. If he is as bad as he is painted then he will likely be back, and next time I am sure he will be nailed. It won't wash a second time.

It wasn't his first time, he was already on bail when he did the burglary!

the thing was though the co-offenders got off scott free as well so I agree with the judge but he did go down for the dic but hey a different judge........but what annoys me is people go to goal for much less

He didn't "go down" for anything. His co-defenders were only in court for the burglary, but when he did the burglary with them he was on bail for the dic. He was discharged without conviction for everything.
I don't think the judge did him any favours though. He needed a shock, maybe a few months in prison would have convinced him of how serious what he was doing was. This just confirms he can do anything and get away with it.

The whole idea that someone can be born into a position of power regardless of morals and intellect rather than elected for there leadership qualities is a step back into the dark ages regardless if it's the British royal family or a island in the pacific. An open poem to the Maori Prince. I wish I was a Maori Prince, for my life would be set. It would be tu Meke and i'd have no regret I'd be stealing in the dead of night, yes ripping off the needy. And from the priviledge upbringing you would not of guessed I'm greedy I would slouch down in my chair and pretend i give a **** But i'd be planning my next burg and i'll get away with it When the cops catch me next drink driving full of Tui i'll just flash my royal grin and say relax I'm from Tainui The boys in all the Prisons say there is something we should know we got locked up and you got off are we not cuzzie bro? but no I am from Royalty and conviction I escape I could get away with murder and I bet also rape I say this rather casually not even with remorse I just get a slap on the wrist not even a drink driving course But alas im not a Maori Prince but i do say this one thing If Kupe were alive today THIS BOY WOULD NOT BE KING! Yep, really, really wrong.... and as somebody already mentioned. The Maori King movement was started in the mid 1850s by some of the Central North Island Tribes and has never been accepted by all Maori. Also, he has no blood right to the Maori Throne, the Monarch is appointed by leaders of the tribes involved in the Kingitanga movement on the day of the previous Monarchs burial.
Can't complain about the justice system, we don't have one to complain about.
