Hi guys
After some advice on a good rod and reel setup in the $800-$1000 bracket. Lived in Whakatane a few years back and owned a ocea 4000p on a jigging master 400 and loved it against the White Island hogs! Live in Auckland these days and don't spend any near as much time chasing big kings around and when I do they are unlikely to be of the White Island pedigree... Any suggestions??

I have recently gone to Synit rods & Accurate BX Slammers but both sets have come out a bit more than 1k but I do a lots of jigging now so decided to upgrade.
In case your interested I have an Xzoga Taka350 matched with a Shimano Trinidad loaded with 80lb all used but in good condition. Set has caught plenty of good Kings & some Puka.
Cheers Pete

Possible new options for around or under $1000 could include:

synit or  jigstar or daiwa (monster mesh) for rods

matched to overhead reels:

accurate or jigstar or maxell

or spin reels:

shimano saragosa or similar

or other higher spec models that is second hand gear in good order.

Lots of variation in prices depending on what type of braid, model/spec of rod/reel, size of reel etc etc. But any of these within reason should be able to form a combo for that sort of price range and are of reputable brands and are decent quality.

There are also cheaper sets that you could buy, but none that I have used that I would recommend.

Synit razor 225 mac x bro. get it all round rod that you'll love.  With the change buy a second hand accurate or get a Maxel.  Get that rod or its little brother.  best gear ever...leagues ahead  of anything I've played with.

There is a kilwell heavy metal 250gr rod for sale in the buy sell section for $275. They are a great rod for a good price and leaves a fair bit of cash for the reel
