I know the best method to find out what these things taste like would be just to eat one or two.....but in the meantime thought i would get an idea of others opinions from here. According to my research they are ok and eaten a lot in britain and europe.
Down south here they are very prevalent at the moment so would be a real easy way to get a feed with just a landing net even.
Whats the answer......and suggestions for preparation and even cooking method.
cheers

I think they would be ok. Tope are. I filleted one recently and it looked good and wasn't too smelly. My dogs loved it.

they are even sustainable,

you can skin them before filleting them, just need a strong arm....

there are quite a few other sharks which are similar in shape and can be confused as Spiny Dogs,
probably all are ok to eat if dealt to straight away,
not all these are in NZ but more than most are...

freeze them for a couple days first this stops em falling to bots when cooked, cut red meat off it tastes strong.put your foot on its head when skinning.

flour, egg, breadcrums n fry em up.rig are nicer to eat.
