Hey guys. Just after a spin reel to chuck on my jigstar 350 rod. I have a saragosa sw20000 but it feels a bit unbalanced and when I wind in, it seems like there is significant contact between the line coming straight from the reel, and the lowest eye. Ive decided I'll leave the 20K on my popper rod and get another, smaller reel for the jigstar rod and was wondering which one would be better out of the Saragosa 10K SW for $450 down from $529 or the sustain 10K FG for $399 down from $529. Also, other suggestions for good spinning jigging reels around the $400-$500 mark would be good. Thanks

Hi mate, I see Greg at Go Fish has got the Sustain 10k on special at the mo for $329. That might help with your decision.

Id grab the one with a slower ratio. If u are using heavier jigs. The saragosas 104cm retrieve will be tiring quickly. I would look for one closer to 90cm retrieve. Both good reels though. You could also try a stradic as they have a 89cm retrieve. Plenty of reels around in the sub $500 range. ------------- TAS - Its a real disease |

This sounds interesting. Please explain to me how will it become tiring if both reels have almost the same gear ratio. One bring in more line than the other, bigger spool or what? Just ask as i have no jigging experience.  |

I dont know the exact ratio of the Sustain, I was just saying look for a retrieve a bit lower. Its a bit like gearing, low gear is better for torque so when you are jigging a touch slower makes life a bit easier on the body. ------------- TAS - Its a real disease |

Been watching this thread and having both reels find each have there own strengths. The Saragosa is more water proofed than the Sustain but the Sustain is lighter and a little more refined in that it has bearing spool support etc. Both reels are spec'd at similar drag output but will struggle to consistently handle drag settings over 9kg... 8kg seems to be a good working drag for both these reels for day in day out reliability. ------------- www.synit.co.nz |
