I got shown a nice clean way of connecting the leader to the braid in Oman last week, its all spicing and no knots, strong as hell and very very simple to retie a new leader. The big thing is you splice a 5m length of 130lb hollow braid into the 60 or 100lb hollow Power Pro braid main line, it wears a lot better than the thinner braid, easier on the fingers and it means the knot is out side the guides, no wind knots and much better distance for casting. We have only been using a 1m bite leader and it seems plenty.

Step 1 – Splice a loop (10mm) on the end of the braid, reverse the splicing through 6 times to create a strong loop that does not slip.

Step 2 – Thread the tag end into the braid by 600mm and pull the line down tight.
Step 3 – Connect the 130lb to the 100 or 60lb hollow main line, thread 300mm of 130lb into the 60 or 100lb main line then thread 300mm of the main line into the 130lb, make sure you have the tags hanging out at each end, pull them both tight and then pull the outer line down tight for a bullet proof connection.

Step 4 – Connect the leader (in this case 130lb) to the loop with the improved Yucatan knot, go through the loop and wrap 6 times down the braid then wrap 5 times back up the braid and put the tag through the loop the same way it went in, pull tight. Cut the tag end off so it got 5-6mm hanging out.

Step 4 – Cut your leader slightly shorter than how much you would normally have hanging out for casting (I use a 1m leader).
This may not be for everyone but for me I have noticed better casting distance, less wind knots and short leader means better action on the lure. The other good thing is you can increase the leader thickness by huge amounts if your in shallow water and its not an issue casting as the thicker leader / knot is not going through the guides. Its takes a little more time to splice the loops but when your out on the water it way quicker to do the Yucatan knot to swap out a damaged leader. You can cast this system for 8hrs a day and have no issue with knots.
If you want to look at better quality photos I also have them up on my website: http://offshoreadventures.net/tackle-reviews/spliced-knot-joining-leader-mainline-topwater-casting/" rel="nofollow - http://offshoreadventures.net/tackle-reviews/spliced-knot-joining-leader-mainline-topwater-casting/
