Hey guys I am on the look out for some good, cheap braid. I know you cant usually put good and cheap in the same sentence but I'll have a go. I have heard good things about Diawa Saltiga boat braid. Is there a local stockist? I can land it here from the US for $56NZ for a 300m spool of PE4 55lb including freight. The other option I was looking at is Suffix 832 in 50 or 65 lb. I have 8lb on my softbait reel but haven't heard much about the heavier stuff? Also, the Diawa option is from ebay, is there anything to watch out for buying braid online? Thanks in advance Mike |

Saltiga boat braid is good stuff, is all i use for jigging and popping. Has a great rep in USA too. Buy 1800m spools too, works out way cheaper -------------  www.kavemantackle.co.nz

Thanks Kev Do you get yours through ebay? I would buy an 1800m spool but I hope I wont need that much, never know tho, especially if I can fit in a trip or 2 to the islands  |

I bought some 80lb hooker braid from tm a while ago and its quite rough since it's made of 4 strands. The Daiwa boat braid is nice and round, made of 8 strands... Its a big difference casting or retrieving them... you can hear it, how much more the 4 strand braid grinds on the guides... I have some a big spool of 60lb 8 strand braid, drop me a pm if you interested.

I would stay away from the hooker braid for casting in my experience. It is cheap, good service from hooker but as has been said, very thick and quite rough on guides, reel and bail arm. If you cast with it, it will not go as far as other thinner braids, has more water resistance and the knots are much thicker, very easily causes wind knots, it also makes a rubbing noise on the reel. But it is cheap and ok for other uses, but much better braid options for casting in my opinion. Daiwa boat braid as mentioned, jigstar katana as a few options.

For PE5 I use 120lb Black Magic supple trace. If it was in the islands you might want to go a bit heavier. I know its not regarded as 'the best' but its good and its very well priced and I have never ever had a problem with it. I think for its price it defiantly is 'The Best' |

True.... just assumed you would use a flurocarbon. I've mainly used black magic 120lb supple for jigging and have started off using it for stick baiting. ------------- Go the Warriors! |

just had a go with the Power Pro hollow ace and it seems to be the bees knees...16 strands, really nice and smooth, very consistent, needle just slides in easily... I tried to splice JB 130lb hollow before, its a *****...
