Just done 2 days with Anesh (stellamoon) down here to checking out what Gisborne has to offer for jigging and topwater.
Rather than attempt to do a long winded write up hopefully the pictures will tell it all, briefly though we managed to catch & release about 100 kings ranging from rats to mid 20kg, keeping only 2.
Anesh managed to tick Trumpeter off his list while here as he had never caught one from any of the previous charters he has done.

Even I managed a couple fish.

Highly recommend a day out with Craig!!
Finally got to tick off a Trumpter on a jig.

The fishing was unreal with hook ups on nearly every cast and the bigger Kings getting nailed on the jigs this time.
Craig's hospitality and knowledge of the Gisborne fishing reefs is second to none and his White Pointer boat is a dream to cast and jig from!
We caught Hapuka, Bass, Kingfish, Trumpter,  Snapper, Blue cod, Terakihi, and Skippys
If you can't afford or manage the time for a trip to the Ranfurly Banks, then this is just as good with a chance to catch some XXL Kingfish, Hapuka and Bass!
I will definitely be back!

Thanks Chris.
Gisborne may well be one of New Zealands best kept secrets, we may be a bit off the beaten track but with a little luck we can persuade anglers to come here with such posts as this one.

Cheers for all the comments boys!

Jonathan...

Carpenter BLC 70/20 Super Multi Cast ( Awesome light weight casting rod)

Carpenter BLC 83/35 Super Cobra

Carpenter Endless Passion 82/38

Smiths AMJ 52H

I will be purchasing a few of the new Carpenter jig rods soon to be released, I have loaded the heavy spin one up at Yeehaa as they had a prototype there from Konishi San's testing last year but will be purchasing the overhead ones as they are my preference for jigging.
