Type in Poaching at Poor knights brings up the story.

A series of expletive-laden videos were uploaded as stories on Instagram.

"You fullas caught any f**king fish yet or what?" said the man filming.

"Ah, got a small feed, got a few in there and then just doing a bit of a clean up in here," said another fisher.

"A little bit of f**king marine life. Stop picking on the marine life aye. F**k, leave them alone."

Saw that. Laws don’t matter now. Do as you like there aren’t consequences unless u call a bloke a bloke when that day he says he ain’t. Then u r in all the papers and police get involved.

One of the crew misread the GPS co-ordinates apparently and they had never been there before. Tui add. Yeah right!

See “Northland Fishing” facebook. Going off there. Culprit(skipper)  has admitted was fishing in reserve. Inplausible explanation given for doing what they did relating to misreading GPS.
Very disappointing what some people do, and not representative of vast majority of recreational fisher people, who would never do this. Moronic behaviour, which will likely result in a prosecution.

Its Bad enough that the idiot of a skipper claimed that he mis-read the GPS marks and didn't realise he was in a reserve,
Then to try and pull the victim card from the fact that Newshub ran the story on the 6 0clock news.
There appeared to me to be multiple people on the boat..... Were they all that naive to realise that the Poor Knights have been a marine reserve for decades? Im absolutely dumfounded at there stupidity and blatant dis-regard to basic fishing regulations.
Whats the bet it will be a tiny fine. Gee I wonder why......

Improbable as it seems that he didn't realise they were in a reserve, surely he wouldn't have posted video of it if he knew they were fishing illegally.  Or maybe he really is that stupid.

He may have a out clause as most IWI might under the treaty .

I have no idea on date for the article.

After a High Court hearing this month, Justice Smellie said in a reserved decision that Dr Smith's decision had been unlawful "to the extent [and in no other respect] that it related to customary Maori fishing interests" and directed the minister to review that.

Justice Smellie found the iwi had a legitimate expectation that its customary rights should have been considered.

The lawyer for the Ngatiwai Trust Board, Wayne Peters, said that because of the illegal aspect of Dr Smith's decision, the previous situation where the iwi had customary rights resumed.

Very disturbing. I believe this person is a member of this forum and has been on a well known fishing tv programme? Appears to be a blatant middle finger to all of us who abide by the rules. Surely a case of throw the book at him, and see you later boat and all fishing gear.

The dude is a tosser of the first order! Now he is posting stuff online moaning about being abused by everyone - Maori and Pakeha.  IMO he deserves it and is being disingenuous in his comments about not knowing the whole area is a reserve.  He will be should have the book thrown at him and has managed to alienate a lot of his target market.

I became aware after watching him on another social media site. I'm not yet convinced if it was a blatant act of 'f..k the law' or a case of ignorance and stupidity. Be interested to see how it plays out and make my mind up once I have a few more facts.

I worry about society when someone like that manages to attract a following. If swearing and being a complete dick on the internet becomes an Olympic sport we have a gold medal winner right there.

Well said. I bet social media wannabes like this crowd can't understand why they haven't achieved worldwide success. Major turn off.
