I have recently sold my kayak and bought a zodiac RHIB with a 25hp yamaha on the back. I have been fixing up a few things on the boat, new flooring etc but have managed a few trips in between jobs. Boat goes well, top speed so far is 47km/h which is more than fast enough.

Took my 13yo daughter out on Friday for a couple of hours, launched at Gulf Harbour and fished off shakespear on the edge of the channel. I was softbaiting and she was using a slider. We got a couple of undersized snapper, then her slider got inhaled by a decent fish - she played it for about 10 mins, then a 15lb snapper popped up. Much bigger than I was expecting.

I'd usually release one that size but she was adamant that she wanted to keep it. I had no net on board but was able to get him by the gills. Fish was in awesome condition and was shared out among the extended family, frame and head are being smoked by a mate. Cheers!

Bit of a break in the crap weather so hit the firth this morning in my little 12 footer with 3 peps on board.

Fishing micro jigs in 10 metres it was all on from the first drop. Kaveman silver whippet was the jig of the day with the jig getting hit on most drops.

Lots of small fish around, on the water for about an hour and came home with 18 between 350mm to 450mm. 1 white filet amongst them so not a bad day.

Out on the firth today in my little quintrex, all reports looked good, low tide at 10.00 so I thought yep could be a good day for a feed as I haven’t been out since Christmas with all this perfect weather we’ve been having.

Cast 2 curly tails out the back to drag along behind the boat, I have found 5/8 jig heads are the best weight for drop and drag in 10 metre, not a lot of current so it was pretty hard to get the nod on the rod going as the jig head bounces along the bottom.

I had a micro jig down on another rod, hunting for bear 3 rods out should be 3 times the fish, or so I thought.

very hard day, picked up 2 snapper on soft baits and 1 on the jig. Still 3 is better than none. So fish sandwiches for dinner - Yum.

Yes we found your side at coro hard Kandrew last week hard going and very short bite time, like fishing in winter,. Small bait cubes better than big slabs.

That's tuff day Kandrew. Don't know how far from OP you fish but our methods sound similar, hopefully I'm blessed with a few more than three tomorrow. Keep up the reports 👍

Short trip out Thursday morning, drifting the last two hours of the flood on west side of Rangi channel. Lovely wheather, not that many boats out.  Kept two at 40-42cm, both really nice condition and plump, nothing milky.  Returned half a dozen or more smaller or undersized.

New penny the colour: dragged curly tail seemed better than the worked jerk shad, but maybe because I was too busy much of the time.  Tried some other colours to see if they were better or worse: they were worse. Then pick up a passenger for a trip round the bay - seal lounging on A buoy, penguins, Rangi light, beautiful area i just take for granted.  Plus a feed!
