Up early this morning put boat in at Stanmore bay and headed out to the 50 mtr line. Stopped at Wellington reef on the way out, plenty of bait fish on the sounder but nothing under them.

Wind predict last night said it was going to be 3 to 5 knots but it was more like 10 knots from the south. Really these guys that come up with these BS weather forecasting sites really need to be looked at by the commerce commission because I’ve never come across one that is close to being accurate. Only good for a guess at best.

Fishing was very slow at the 50 line with only one keeper and lots of undersized fish. So back to the tiri channel for a whole lot of more undersized fish, a few sooty sheerwaters around chasing bait fish around but again nothing big under them.

Picked up another 3 keepers on the way home so 4 in the bin for a very average day.

Shot out on Saturday morning from Okahu Bay with a couple of mates and headed wide to make the most of the mint forecast.
We covered a heap of ground - started at a few spots where terns were north of Rangi - out further to Tiri/ spots between Kawau and Coro and then back towards Waiheke. Came across a bunch of gannets on the water and dolphins - we witnessed a couple of work ups start near us and by the time we got there it was all over - literally within 20-30 seconds. Nothing underneath them anywhere even where they previously were.
Only managed one good gurnard in the bin and threw back small snapper when we found fish.

We stayed overnight at Motuihe and fished a few hours around Sergeants and Waiheke yesterday but again only small fish.

What is going on out there and what is with the very quick work-ups? We were using fleas/ sliders and chucked a few live baits down. Guys back at the ramp had similar average fishing.

Perhaps need to berley up in close?!

Cheers,
Jason
