Not fishing related but Came across this old photo. Many of us who started school in the mid to late sixties would remember this house of pain, thank god things have changed.

Imagine being a 5 or 6 year old kid being dragged into there, not a peddle job Paul but it would have been belt driven and would have ran about as fast as a battery drill.

Was called the 'murder house'. And we all survived.
And were usually given a small plastic box that held drills, filled with a drop of mercury. You could slide the mercury from slot to slot. Good fun.
That was the prize for surviving the murder house.
Still got all my original teeth.

Hard to believe even the needle they stuck in your gum looked like something you’d use on a horse

Yeah I don't recall any of those.
Just the loud wine/grind of the drill and bits flying around in my gob. And the heat of the drill.
Did I mention the pain?
Nowadays the dentist asks if I want a jab first. Yes please and make it a double.

I remember the dental nurse leaning over me, all cleavage and perfume.

No wonder it’s so expensive to go to the dentist nowadays, X-rays composite fillings

How much would you pay for the old treatment compared to the new pain relief. I think we’ve all got a bit softer with age.

All I can say is I think all of us that went through that regime had many fillings by the time they left school. My 4 kids are aged between 25 & 35. I think there is one filling out of all of those teeth. They were all raised on tank water so no fluoride. Teeth weren't treasured in the 1960'2 as they are now. No harm done? I don't think so.
