Saturday afternoon I decided to take the 9 month old pup for a walk in one of the local forrests for a Pheasant shoot.

We had been walking for about 45 minutes when she locked onto a scent. I let her track it and about 5 minutes later she went for a Peacock hen, I boweled it when it flushed. Nice one, her first Peacock.

With that in the pack we carried on. Around 10 minutes later we came out on a small clearing. Couldnt believe me eyes or my luck. There was a small wild pig around 15 to 20kg. I was close enough to put some number 4 lead in just behind the shoulder dropping it instantly.

With thoughts that it probably had a bad tempered mother lurking close behind I put it on  my shoulders and headed back to the truck.

Skinned it when I got home and hung it up in the car port for the night. Its now in the freezer as a couple of nice roasts and some chops.

Next time I will have a large load of lead in case the mum is around

must admit that whole dog, flush, shoot thing is sounding more apealing, never tryed it, read an artical today on a guy that shoots, "chucka" game birds, think thats what there called, in the south island, using dogs to flush em, but there spose to be real tuff to shoot!!

She was behind me and distracted by the peacock, probably fortunate as she would have no doubt run in and buggered it up been young.
