Hi All, solo mish this morn produced some nice eating Snaps all around 5-6 kg. Had one bigger model on for twenty odd seconds but managed to avoid getting hooked properly and got off! Had a few similar sessions over the last month with a couple around the 8 kg mark the best. The hot summer months here the bigger fish are alot harder to catch. Todays fish i shared around with friends and family and the bodies went to elders for the Marae. Pic of fish in boat back on beach..Beer

Thanks for replies Guys! Agree the price per kg for  Snapper is way to much when you consider how plentiful and easy they are to catch especially out West. Im aware Greg how fortunate I am here, fishing my home patch with the amount of good fish compared to other areas of NZ. Beer

Hey Geoff wondering what reels you’re running.  Mainly penns by looks ... also are you running braid or nylon? Just curious
I’ve gone pe3 braid,  was previously mainly 10- 15kg nylon, Also fish old school Penn spinfishers but am now also substituting a Penn fierce and Penn 5000 V4 series. The fierce 8000 has been really great reel and still is going well catching big Snapper and odd good king. Pretty good for reel under $150. Although  I still love my old Penn spinfishers the most.

Hi Shenag, Over the years I have spent alot of money on more expensive Penn and Shimano spin reels than the ones I use now which are the good old Penn Ssm spinfisher 850. Have found these outlast and out perform the more expensive models by far. Found the dearer models the drags would stuff out, water would get in during beach Launching over time buggering the insides. Also the Ssm's have a nice loud drag which is vital if it's a bit rough and windy, you can hear it clearly when a fish hits! Also a strong reel for playing the fish to tire it out. On the line have always used Moi moi 15 kg flouro mono. Simple reason on flouro if your running 2-3 straylines at a glance you can see the slightest pull, change of direction, were they lie. Try keeping an eye on three lines with clear mono, very hard. Plus Moi moi up there with the best quality mono avaliable. Hope this helps. Cheers

Thanks that is a very helpful reply. Good point re- the floro nylon, and just so happens I have some floro in 15kg on on shelf and a very well used  850ss that needs respooling.Smile
