Agree mate but NZ is like most countries. Money and greed over the environment we all can’t live without. Not many thinkers in the right positions

The lies we heard about how we needed to increase our population to 5 million so we could afford to improve our infrastructure. Ummm we now have 5 000 000 people and our roads are worse, the sewerage system is worse, there's not enough water except when we have heavy downpurs and then there's no enough drainage. But yeah,at least we have electric scooters

Population growth/inmigration as an answer to our economic woes is a Ponzi scheme - dressed up in another name.

It is a disgrace but won't be fixed any time soon.  When they were in opposition National blamed Labour, but Nicolla Willis has already said it is nothing to do with the government, it's all down to the council.  Funny how quickly responsibility shifts.  The trouble is that councilors and Mayors are elected, and no one will vote for someone who wants to raise rates and cut other services in order to spend billions on new sewerage treatment works.  It's the same with most infrastructure, everyone wants it, but no one wants to pay for it.

I agree 3mil was a good number but back then they were and still are worried about the number of people retiring to the number of people entering into work. But how can you plan for roads and infrastructure with the high levels of immigration we have at the moment.

I think there has been very little thought whatsoever go into keeping up services to match the rate of housing and traffic increases which comes with expanding population , over the past 20 + years by anyone. Council's with no idea , developers who just don't care and just grab all the $ they can because they can . My view is any work which has been done are just knee jerk reactions to problems which are already years old and out of control. NZ is just going to be another polluted , over populated **** hole like so many other places around the world . I'm glad I won't be around to see it.

Some mainstream economists are saying that a population of 15 million is required for economic development. 100 000 people a year moving to NZ, that's a population the size of Whangarei. Is a city the size of Whangarei being built every year with associated infrastructure (e.g. schools, hospitals, motorways)?

When I went to school we had 3m people, and what we were taught was a sustainable population was... zero population growth.

Now we import 100,000 people a year, mostly low wage migrants. But we dont build the houses or road or water pipes for that growth. Not that I think we need more people.

The amazing thing is that Kiwis have swallowed this bull****. Canada its a major election issue. Is the future we want a densely populated ****hole?

The core challenge is that the infrastructure investment from councils has not kept up with growth and has also not kept up with asset maintenance requirements.  This is because they haven't wanted to look at funding models for it e.g. new developments have not paid their way in terms of infrastructure investment (not just water infrastructure) and also successive councils have kicked the can down the road (mostly because the wanted to get re-elected so didn't increase rates or look at sufficient new build levies etc.)

Those chickens are now coming home to roost ...

I think Auckland is the only city that has the historic data, done the modelling and put the results out to a website for all to see (safeswim.org.nz) to show where issues are after heavy rain.  I would wager that other cities (and towns) have the same (or worse) problems bit they are not publishing it.

3 Waters had it's issues but at least it was an attempt to do something about the water infrastructure problem.

What gives me the ****s - figuratively speaking, is when i see these 'news' articles - and remember the NZ Horid is constantly fishing for dramatic content  - is when i see articles about water qaulity, and then they refer to 'modelling'

Ive seen more modelling from 'scientists' so far wrong its not funny - than ive heard of people getting sick swimming at the beach....
