Went down that route some yrs back.. Fathers day presents.
I now use  elcheapo ladies hair tie elastic rings, 2x time around just above the reel.
 They last a couple yrs
 About $3 for 50 or 100 at the $2 shop.
 Just pull open and drop sinker thru so hangs just above the reel.
 I also have another further up just below where a 2 piece rod separates. The bottom and top hair ties hold the top section in close to the bottom section with the vulnerable tip protected by the lower section when traveling.
