Hi All, Its been a year or two since Iv'e posted but had the urge so here goes. Been a bit crook the last year and didn't do a hell of alot of fishing to wot I normally do. With health good now Iv'e been out three times in the last two months. Twice with my brother and solo last Labour weekend Monday. The trips with my brother resulted in multiple Snaps over the 20lb mark all let go and a bin full of smaller ones for home and sharing around. Have a good video of releasing a big Snap watching it charge back to the depths! but couldn't work out how to load it on hear to view. Last Monday out on me own the best Snap I got was a Goodie a big long fish 87cm. Have entered it in the DB Export National Measure where it sits top of the heap for now but won't last as bigger fish 90cm odd usually take the honours. Also noticing now I'm in my 60's the beachlaunching in the little Mac 360 results  in a few aches and pains I never use to get! Could be a new boat calling in the near future!Thumbs Up Pic of me at home with Mondays Snap...Beer

Wow! another west coaster boomer to you Geoff..A mighty fish, well done.

At my tender age of 78, I have a bit of recuperating to do after a ramp launch  so can well imagine the tender feelings after a beach launch, solo.
BUT, keep going so long as you can mate, is my advice..
I can imagine there are untold hundreds who would gladly suffer a bit of that pain for a slice of the action that comes your way, kitno, for one Big smile

Holy crap I have never caught anything like that. And I beach launch all the time, and it hurts. I am  70+ too.

Well done Geoff.

Are you still getting milky fillets out west? Read a post from 2015 where you got a few.

Hi Alan, Top effort on the beach launching at 70 plus  years of age!! Iv'e read in the past certain areas in Hawkes Bay you guys beach launch decent size boats with floating trailors  type of method. Is this done in your area Alan?

Hi Pcj, to be honest i probably haven't caught a milky  one since then! The Snaps off here are mostly fat as with some real barrells in amongst them. One thing Iv'e changed in the last year i read about bleeding your Snapper before going in the ice bin. Since doing this have found the fillets are in alot better condition, no redness or bruising like before. Wot I do is Ikey and straight away put a cut inside the top of gills, you will see the blood coming out, hold in the sea by the tail until its drained then in the bin. Beer

Yep. Clifton, Cape Kidnappers. BTDT a few times. Made a floating trailer. Sits in the drink all day long waiting for you to come back. Guess what, never had to replace a wheel bearing.
But for last 30 + yrs, straight honest beach launch in to E coast surf. We roll a boat or two per yr, but none have been mine. Touch wood. But mine is always one of the first to go when it looks maybe possible.
Man you got an awesome fishery down your way. Simon (Whitesnake) was a great help when we came over. We caught some good ones too, altho chasing marlin.
But nothing like yours.
Go the ABs.

Fantastic to see the King of Mokau back, and even more so with another of your fresh kahawai scoffing stonkers.
Sorry to hear you haven't been well, Geoff, but glad you're on the improve. Good luck with the measure tournament - I'm sure there will be an even bigger monster around your spot X before the comp closes in the middle of next year.

What's the heaviest snapper you've ever taken from the Mokau area.
