Cornwallis last week Sunday morning, hard going on the outgoing tide in 2.6m, fishing a hole
Snaps came on the bite around 730am & it stopped altogether around 8ish, heaps of bites after that but no more for the bin
The nor wester kicked in & that was me for the day... best going 42cm
Hardly anyone on the water
Fresh macks & squid baits

This morning, trying out new area just out from Cornwallis for the incoming
Lovely conditions around 2kt sou east
Fluffed around looking for fish, heaps of sign, no takers
Found a likely spot with a bit of structure, berley down, strayline macks out. 730ish got fish, then it stopped again around 8
2 for the bin, a few snaps running line out then falling off, then just bites after that
Tried a couple other places out deeper around 8m, heaps of weed caught in the gear.... gave up

Nice work BB.

I’ve been struggling over the past 3 trips at the local. Last Saturday I had zero bites. Will be staying at the cabin this Easter and hope to do a couple missions at the waiuku channel.

Cornwallis this morning got there late, tried my usual spots in 3m, just a few bites & no sign on the sounder
Another spot that was good on the outgoing, nuffing & baits came back untouched
There were 2 boats sitting on other side of the channel around no7 marker, I could hear 1 of them yahooing
So paddled towards the main channel & saw patches of sign hard down coming thru in 6.2m. Dropped the pick with dry berley clipped on at the top of the chain, baited up using manky old refrozen macks & squid on the other rod
Got fish pretty much straight away around 9ish, got a few more then pulled the pin, plenty for us (37-64cm) then soon after, the current dropped right off turning the kayak side on to the sou east breeze making it a bit tippy, so headed back in... was exactly 2hrs on then off the water
Quite a few boats & kayaks out there this morning - good day out for about a handful of baits, nothing on fresh mullet

Easter Monday trip report.

We stayed at the whaanau cabin at Clarks beach. The weather over easter weekend wasn’t kind, but a calm window was forecast on Monday.

I launched at 5am and established myself next to the boat ramp. I wasn’t coy to fish further out, as I didn’t want to be caught in the middle of an unexpected storm.

Despite the murky water. I caught some very nice fish near the campground. The softbaits were not getting any attention, but the kabura certainly did!

As the sun started to rise, I paddled further out and caught a very fat snapper (59cm) and a large kahawai.

Very happy to catch a good feed considering the other anglers at the campground had struggled. Absolutely love this spot. Come winter time, I will be turning up the heat and will be fishing hard for gurnard after missing out last year.
