Hell yeah, come on over. Sam managed to do a trip last year and caught some good fish. I’m keen to check out your side. I’ve got plenty of time off over Xmas to make it happen.

We had a similar experience yesterday too. Launched around 7 into the last of a gentle but murky incoming tide. Hunted for some suitable live baits over the slack water but our search was in vain.

Decided to move down to waterfall bay area for a couple of hours of jigging as the current picked up but only managed to raise 1 small 60cm rat for all our efforts.

Once we had enough and arms were tired we     move to a old favourite shallow water spot in the Papakura not far from the tripod. With an interesting back eddy present at this spot it takes a little getting used to and quite often the fish are swimming straight at you so tension is key to a good hook up here.

As the outgoing tide slowed the bite got better and the mix of fish species was great.
Caught plenty of KY, Trevs and lots of 30 something cm's snaps, a couple of Sharks, 1 stingy and 1 eagle ray. Last fish of the day was this girl at 61cms who was deeply hooked so she came home for the boys at work.

Great results guys.  I hit the local patch in Weymouth.  I didn't go far beyond the mouth of the inlet as the tide was coming into the Pahurehure inlet.  

Looking at next Saturday afternoon.(KKB wlil be a night mare with the new ramp open) 8.15 high with a 3.7m tide so will be looking to fish same area in the waiuku channel around 1.00pm to about 4.30pm hopefully still holding fish? Work xmas eve so a short trip.

Jenkins bay on the banks this morning 6-9am
Rat shet, saw almost zero sign going over the main channel to the banks and hardly any sign for the first hr
Anchored in 5m, buggar all happening, heaps of undersize, kept 3 for the bin 36cm
Around 8ish heaps of sign coming thru, haystacks of snaps, big bait schools and nothing really hungry... gave up.... dirty ol refrozen mullet that was salted was the best today then squid, no real bites on salted pillies

I hit Clarks beach at the change of light last night. I wanted to stay away from the shallows, as I was plagued by skate and stingrays last weekend.

I paddled to a spot I found earlier with lots of potential. A running rig was deployed, (as there was a steady amount of current running through slack tide). Some good snapper were caught, (35-49cm) and a horse of a kahawai measuring at 58cm.

The Kahawai was shaped like a tuna, it had alot of girth and put up a hell of a fight!

Salted baits worked best. Recorded water temperature at 19.5C.

I was surprised nothing hit my softbait unlike previous trips. I absolutely love this place and the accessibility for my kayak. I plan to have a lot of holiday time at our cabin this xmas to explore this area. It’s been five straight weekends of fishing so far and I’m very fortunate my missus is very understanding.

Fantastic day yesterday spent fishing the turn of the low on the Karore bank not far from the tripod. I took a couple of the old boys from work who had a great time on the light gear in the shallows.

The harbour was flat like a pancake!

Arron and two others I know went out west today. The harbour must be snotty as with a 15 to 20kt NE puffing away. I know Mars did well but Arron was struggling early on. My call was 30 to 40m off Cochranes but what would dad know so Arron went to 50, came back in closer  I will let you know how he got on. I got a msg from a friend asking if it was me he saw out there. 'Nah' just my boat. He struggled too but I think they just needed to wait for a later bite. I caught up with a mate yesterday too who made hard work of it. All these guys are very capable west coast fishermen. Right now the fish are where you find them out there.
