Awesome day out on the harbour with some stunning conditions in the morning. Plenty of seal pups on Puponga point with a few rock fisher folk getting a bit too close... great time to take tour kids past in a boat for a look.
Fishing was slow, the gurnard bite was patchy and tentative when they were about. Managed half a dozen carrots to save the day but it was tough going. Time to change something!

Cheers Gurnard, i remember that ramp from when i lived up that way and naw, Appreciate yr advise thanks  and yes thats why i asked b cos its a 2wd, it is a company car and they go harder and back in further BUT....  option B  Te toro any dramas there 

Te Toro is all good. The only problems there are on the very big tides at dead low, when it is possible to drop your trailer wheels off the end of the ramp. It can also get a build up of mud right at the bottom of the ramp but it didn't look too bad last time I saw it.

Planning on heading out on the Muddy again tomorrow for the first time in a long time, I haven't used the Waiau Pa ramp before, is it open for public use and what is the public parking like. I will be joining the club but haven't yet.

Also any tips for where the fish are at the moment?

Got out both Wednesday and Thursday mornings for not much, first times out for a long time on the harbour so need to work things out again.

Wednesday: started in the papakura channel edges with only a few small kahawai after a few hours, got bored and headed out to the heads to try for an early kingfish with no luck there. Managed to pick up a large kahawai on the drift on a ledger rig, called it quits when the wind came up.

Thursday: beautiful morning and very foggy slowly cruised out and dropped anchor on the edge of the bank in the waiuku channel. Managed one Gurnard after wading through a bunch of very small snapper. When the fog lifted we moved over to ropers. We fished for a couple of hours with only one small hammerhead to show for our efforts.

The scallopers are out in force at the moment, and we saw fisheries both days out checking on them which was good to see.

I've heard a few reports of good sized snapper in the 60cm range being picked up in the heads area so will be trying up there next time out.
