Manukau Harbour & West Coast fishing

Started the day in search of livebaits but really struggled to get anything decent with the water being so murky and swell pushing over the bar into the outer harbour.
Pulled the pin after a couple of hours and decided to head up the snappakura for a shallow water session towards the top of the tide. Must have been a competition on as I have never seen so many boats in the harbour all at one time.
A steady stream of snapper started coming aboard with the odd Trev and KY in the mix. All baits worked well and a little burley seemed to set them off. As the tide turned the wind came up from west so we decided to bump our way home in the building chop.
Decided to give a couple of the harbour markers a jig before we headed in and we were rewarded with this guy.

11/1/2019 had good snapper of 30 to 35 centimeters off mill bay area plus big stingrays

Yep a nice little trip .. fish for a feed.
We went out yesterday ..for a feed.. Didnt get much further than Matakawau Pt from TeToro
Did a little prospecting before the expected bite came on...
One undersided, just...burley kicked and they started coming over the side 10 X 29 to 34 cm...in the bin
and only 1 other unsided, foul hooked in the belly.
Once again (3 trips in a row) no sharks, rays.. or even KY or gurnard..
All on salted mullet and trev...which for the 1st time I have been experimenting with after some great advice from some members here and couple old posts.
Once again at dinner last night, West coast snapper , be it harbour or off the coast taste very different (better) to east coast ....and far different soft texture
Taste better.!! Why would they taste better. That idea sounds half baked --literally. Hmmm. Different soft texture. That sounds right. All that water flowing over hot mud banks as the tide rises. Result,snapper are already soft boiled when you catch them.
So is there any relationship between flesh texture and water temperature from which the fish are taken.

Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.
Agree. Have yet to see a slabby snapper in the manukau. Always good condition.
Read somewhere that west coast snapper have faster growth rates and earlier maturity than East coast snapper.
Have noticed that when filleting the fat on the knives and when washing down is sort of different, more grainy Yet in the water in the smoker the east coast is in little balls and wet coast floats more like normal fats, oils..
And when smoked.. smoother significantly texture.
Normal fry up texture, no doubt about it thu, the flest is smoother and softer.. regardless if cooked same day or 3 days later.
Flavour is fuller yet less harsh.
I think what you are trying to say, is that West is best 
Hmm I do miss my bottom end rather than the Manukau harbour fishing...bigger fish , more of them.. but te toro is closer...
Can get out more often, out east, far more often than can get out over the bars..and stay out till feel like it, not dependant on tides..
That is what I miss.

Fantastic day on the big muddy today. Launched from a overly busy Cornwallis and took the better half and fur child out for some action in the shallows.
Anchored up in a favourite gutter of mine to fish the outgoing tide in 4 meters and began pumping the surface berley. Baits weighted with 1/2oz sinkers were deployed and were quickly taken as it became obvious we were in for a hot bite. Both mullet and squid were the favourites.
The bin quickly filled with a feed of 35cm plus snapper. A couple of larger models snatched our baits and were released to fight another day.
Highlight of the day was hooking this guy up in knee deep water for some blistering runs. I think I may have found a new way to target snapper in the Manukau.... plenty of mullet cruising the current lines and KY boil ups off Big bay

Was a hard day had a lodge or orcas go through close to French bay . Had a 20 knot southwest out going tide quite choppy managed a feed

After a couple of land based dustings from kingis last week I took the IRB out on the Manukau today.
Tried a bit of jigging without success but landed 3 kings on stickbaits. Biggest went 112cm, didn’t get a weight unfortunately. Had a dirty bronzie try and steal a small kingi boatside.
