This forum seems to be getting less and less active. I guess social media/Facebook is to blame.

I managed to get out twice so far this week. Both times launching at Clarks and heading to a different spot in search of better gurnard.

The first trip only resulted in 3 gurnard, one being the smallest I have ever caught. Two other legal ones but let the first legal one go as it was caught relatively quickly. Unfortunately only the one caught after that. A few Kahawai also caught so dinner was saved.

The second trip was a last minute decision yesterday but the weather was too good to pass up on another mission. Fished the same spot and it was a bit slow. However managed a nice plump 42cm carrot, and my son got a slightly smaller but great eating sized one not long after. A few more kahawai rounded off a quick 2 hour fish ensuring we were home and washed up just on dark.

Nice, I've been laid up sick all week and I was on holiday with great plans for fishing. The harbour and coast look flat as too. I saw your little gurnard pic Mr Gurnard, I've caught way smaller! Maybe 120mm long

Went for a looksie yesterday off blockhouse bay, incoming tide
Was zero sign on the sounder for the hours I was out there in ideal conditions.....not a single bite ! The current was ripping thru there
At the turn of the tide, it started to chop up
I got zero for my effort

It was hard going at Weymouth. I paddled out wide this morning just before sunrise. I deployed the burley and sat anchored for a couple hours for zero bites. I moved closer to the shallows and caught 2 Kahawai. That was it.

It was a stunning day! Not a breathe of wind and smooth seas.

Big tides this weekend wasn't it? Went for a walk with the family out at Whatipu yesterday. Huia was packed with boat trailers obviously out over the coast. Looked a bit choppy out there though despite the perfect forecast. Thought about taking the Mac out for a look but my weekends are taken up this time of year with kids and rugby league.

We did alright on the gurnard today, ended up with 14 between two of us. Most were caught in the Papakura in 6m on the incoming. Tide was ripping as it came up and flooded over the bank, best bait blue mackerel. Fantastic morning out there!

Wow, that's a great catch. I really dislike big tides though.

Anyone been out this week? Was planning a trip over the coast tomorrow but the forecast isn't amazing. Might try in the harbour. August isn't my favorite time of year though so really not sure if I'll bother 😂

I was out Sunday. The only boat out there. We heard one other boat call Coastguard but they didn't follow up. The bar was flat and the whole trip we only saw three boats. Two fishing in good conditions off Big Bay and a trawler out at 50m. We smashed our way out there for four gurnard, 3 of which were throw backs, plus a bite off from what felt very much like a tope.

We smashed our way back into the shallows at 8 knots but as we got closer to land we managed 12 knots. The swell was very small but pretty much a direct southerly - not what I was expecting.

At 15m off Cochranes gap Arron got a nice fat 45cm snap and a very skinny kahawai. At least we were entertained by maui dolphins, our 5th sighting for the year.

We went to 12m and got a spotted doggy, maybe 5 or so keepable snaps and another tope bite off plus a shark that had top be a bronzie.

Yeah I hate August fishing. Having said that there have been some great days since Matariki with snapper to 15lb, trouble is I couldn't go on those days!

I'm pretty sure Skoti got one of his best harbour snaps on August 19 many years ago. I still  hate August & I'm still limping after Sunday's effort

Weather looking good for the weekend though!

I won't be even at looking at going out west until mid September, then at the first opportunity - 60m!

I’ve been out multiple times over the winter, oh boy, fishing has been tough! Been many times that i can see a boat out there.

I’ve been catching kahawai, but they have been skinny. Nice to get some exercise and have a nosey in then mean time.

That sounds like a mission of a day Smudge!

Leaving home now, report to follow a bit later on. Will be fishing the papakura channel over the high tide.

Went out this morning about 8 to try the small channel on the other side of the Hangore bank to Ropers.
Very foggy with visibility down to about 50m. It’s a really eerie feeling being out in the fog as your sense of direction is completely gone.
Anyway, the new spot was a nightmare of weed so headed over to Ropers.
No carrots but 1 x snap of 650mm. Bonus.
Oh what a smasher - two eggs and a rasher!

That fog was very thick! I launched at about 9.30/10 and fished over the high until the turn of the tide.

I caught a few tiny snapper to start with, then lost a couple of legal jobbers before finally boating a decent one.

Caught quite a few bang on 30cm or thereabouts but let most of them go, as I was wanting bigger models today.

Hooked the bottom, lost my trace. Re rigged and hooked a decent bronzie. Got it to the boat and as soon as I grabbed the leader it broke free. Took it as a sign to head home.

Yeah it was a magical day out there Fish Addict. Was glad I actually made the decision to go, as I was debating staying home due to my opinion on August fishing in the harbour - safe to say this opinion has now switched to September being my least favoured month in the harbour Tongue
