Hey guys anyone have any knowledge on the fishing out by te muri campground? I’m going camping there for 5 days and would like to catch a trophy fish like a big snaps or kingi but don’t really know where to start around there. Any tips would be much appreciated!

Hi, are you fishing from shore? or boat/kayak?

It can fish quite well around there but can also be quite sharky at this time of year.

If there are birds working in the area, it is definitely worth catching a kahawai/mackerel and slow trolling or drifting it around the edges of the workups in that area. There are often some good kingfish around there in summer.

Snapper fishing is quite patchy at the moment in the shallows but if conditions permit, the area south of Saddle island fishes quite well - plenty of current and depth changes to explore.
