Three people tossed out of their boat at the Port Waikato rivermouth were hurt but had what’s been called a lucky escape.

Monday morning’s incident has prompted another strong warning to boaties, after the trio spent about half an hour in the water and were left with minor to moderate injuries.

To some extent we make our own luck though, if they hadn't all been wearing life jackets and been able to call for help they may not have been so "lucky".
