looks like i'm going to need to purchase some silly string and rods top match

some people BA just like to scull drag, but i enjoy the lighter stuff...
not always do you hook up the intended target though, like when fish for snaps you end up with a King/shark/ray,
that is when the fun really starts, skill and tackle performance come into play.
the other day i was to lazy to re-rig another set-up and used my bait rod to catch a snapper when it took off, have know idea what it was as it didnt know how to slow down, after a couple of hundred yards i decided to stop the fight and broke it off, 4kg braid was a joke against such a beast, plus i didnt have the time to pi$$ around with it....
but other times 6kg is quite enough to stop most sharks/rays/kingfish i tend to encounter...
i dont like to loose good fish and leave them with tackle attached so tend to stay with 6kg....

 
 

yes we were going to do the same on 3 as there were heaps about and although for the nats you have to kill them they were perfect smoker size.

BA you have the gear to run em down and keep up with the sodding thing's... I found the more line in the water the less drag you have to have on..6lb line now that would be awesome fun. 

just loaded 2 reels with 4lb for targeting mahimahi. I think we are in for a lot of lost fish with the fish jumping around a lot but time will tell

yes so the question is what gear is being used, is spinning better or free spool etc I have done a heap of it over the years but had problems with 1 and 2 k line times have changed as has the gear so keen to hear what is being used out there.

I have a beautifully rollered Berkerly Gorrilla 7 ft 8-15kg rod with a worked TLD20 2 with 700m of 10kg Maxima mono...hoping to have fun with anything big.

Do lots of light tackle for kings, fishing 4 and 6kg, i fish overhead reels, on saltist 4-6kg rods, i fish moimoi as i like having a bit more abrasion. For kings where i fish i know the area which is key, you need to know the terrain. I  drag them out as they usually follow when not giving them death. get them on the sand and wear them out.
