Hi all,

Still on the hunt for my first marlin and have one last shot this Sunday and Monday with school holidays starting. Have had half a dozen days gamefishing out of the BOP and one day out west without being largely successful.

We’re thinking about heading north - targeting the 100 - 200m zone between Whangaroa and Cape Karikari. If you had 2 days left this season what area would you be targeting?

Your plan looks good to me but I'd be in the closer of those depths.

Been marlin coming into Whangamata every day in last week from 50-80m inside Mayor Island.
Most caught on live skipjack to 178kg. Lot around 140-150kg+

In close seems to be the current trend, but trends change, keeping looking and be prepared to change zones to hunt.
Keep researching catches, where and when on what and how..
Stay in touch and keep informed.
Best of luck.

I would live bait the western side of mayor, between whanga and mayor, jack macs or skippys.
