...yeah, was it you that bumped this up to the top of the list?
Awesome read, it seems there are fish to be found after all...

Only got about halfway through it, I'll be back tomorrow night.

Seeing as this thread is more active once again, has anybody caught anything in Pupuke recently?

Was automatically "bumped" to the top by virtue of posting the reply message
two back.

Thought it would be the easiest way of doing it, rather than continue with
a duplicate thread, but with one that much more historic info that should
answer most questions re fishing Pupuke.

Cheers

Hey there

Im pretty new to fishing this area, can someone give me the low down on best time of day and methods of fishing here.

I would be inclined to use something like a woolly bugger on a floating line but i hear most people talking about taking fish on bread?

Also what are the best areas to fish, have been over near the rowing club with the wharf out from the hospital and the drop off is close to shore, is this a good place to try??

Cheers for any info

yep... the land bridge by the rowing club constantly accounts for fish. I've never had much luck at the warf at the back of the hospital although I have seen quite a few trout caught there - but mainly on corse fishing rigs. There doesn't seem to be any natural hatch or summer smelt in the lake - so I would guess that fishing is hard in the summer months...but that said trout must feed so you could do worse than trying a night time fish over the weedbanks on the drop off.

I have done well on big olive wolly buggers and olive rabbits- in my opinion they look like baby pearch ( i don't now what the trout think!).... so at night a black pattern would do well.

The drop off is vey deep very fast at the rowing club - so I don't think a floating line is the go. use an intermediate or a sinking tip line

Time to bump this thread as I just got my new license and Im giving this lake a regular bash this year.

Can the mods make it sticky?

Anyone tried it out lately? Have read somewhere that F&G has restock it this year with browns along with the regular rainbows.

Spend disarvo fishing off the hospital jetty. Dropped my line in the water just beside me at the very end of the jetty and caught five goldfish, three big rudd and one trout around the 2-3lb mark. Just using bread sitting about 1m off the bottom. Certainly plenty of action but some another trout would have been nice

If you are fishing off the Wharf again then try giving your spinner / fly a really good long sink, 30 - 60 seconds+. I have found most of the Trout are in the deep water at Pupuke durring the hot summer (??) days.

Good luck.

yeah "hot summer" you're onto it! thanks for the tip :) Do you think using extra weight is a good idea, or does it scare the fish? Just want to cast a little futher. The lure itself is like 10gram.

I don't use the extra weight myself but I have seen others using small sinkers with their lures and it dosen't appear to affect their catch rates.
