Guys can you tell this ignorant foreigner a little about the Blue Marlin fishery in New Zealand?
things like - seasons, size, how abundant, where found, how caught, differences between Blue and Striped Marlin in terms of finding hooking and fighting
what little i've heard suggests that you guys have a blue marlin fishery that a lot of places where they're seriously fished for would envy
looking forward to the replies
cheers dustin
Dustin...
One thing that I do know about Blues is that their captures are on the increase compared with strippie numbers on the decline!...It is hard to work out the reasons for this but either our water temps are on the rise (which I don't think is the case!) or longlinner fleets are thinning out the strippie fisherey!?
Season; late Feb - late May
Average weight (guestimate); 200kg -
Last Grander - 456.8kg (1999 - Capt. Bob Ash - Reel Passion, Angler - Tony Harding - method livebait)
Methods - lures and live baits
I will try and get someone to answer your qs that has seen a lot of Blues over the past few years!
