Al,
One of your best links.

I spent time reading numerous insight articles.
Pretty disappointed I never came across this before.

A very intelligent fisherman.
One of the best I've read from any country.

This should be a go to for most fisherman.
I suggest all who are interested in reasoned understanding of their craft or interest should put this on there homepage.

thanks Al.
Just cruising in my now sweetas pimped out Southern 755 HT0!

You can't deny the science of narrow thickness, smoothness and barb size for best penetration.
During my early years of fly fishing, my club had a guest speaker who was an advocate of barbless hooks. He set a hook into a piece of foam and showed that the hook would have to be pulled backwards to unhook it. Now trout do jump and a barbless hook will still stay hooked.
Even in game fishing the same is true - I remember Peter Pakula saying that barbless is best for marlin fishing but no one would buy a barbless marlin hook. I file down the barbs on my marlin hooks but still have one.
Going barbless on a recurve hook is a no-brainer (makes it much easier to remove when you hook yourself, too!!)
Excellent site - thanks.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken

Good stuff alright. Never ceases to amaze me that people who spend tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars on a boat/gear are happy to fish with blunt, rusty hooks 😀

Yes, Peter P said to always reduce the size of your barb, even on his hooks. Said they caught more fishers than fish with the size that was produced :)
