programme persuaded over 600,000 of us to support a ban on the wasteful practice of throwing dead fish back into the sea. The European commission listened and has announced it intends to ban discarding fish. For some peculiar reason, the fishing industry's reaction to the commission's announcement was not as warm as you might have expected.

Rarely has a TV campaign been won so convincingly. In January this year,

Millions of tonnes of edible fish are caught and then thrown away at sea in Europe for several reasons: some, because they are of low commercial value, but others are discarded because the fishermen do not have a quota for that species, or because if the fishermen landed them, they would exceed their allotted EU quotas.

Excellent input Lethal.

"Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and im not sure about the universe."---Einstein.

Now know he was correct.

As they begin to manage the E.U fisheries and set new standards we will be required to follow and meet those E.U standards if we wish to maintain our fish exports ,i suspect.

just shows how long it has been going on,
everyone is involved from top to bottom,
fishing companies quota holders skippers fishermen,
Government departments MPI NIWA even with observers falsifying records an drunk the list has become so huge because they all believe maybe its good for the NZ economy,
all i know is its got to stop, now i do believe they kill more than they take,
the system has to change, no dumping fish, small fish need to escape no way can you keep killing the next generation and expect it grown,
just think how much more fish there would be if the millions that died in these nets could of lived.
