Finished this last year but finally found the time to post a few pics..
Muppet again kindly donated a broken rod which I managed to salvage some parts from (Fuji soft touch down lock reel seat and some guides) cheers again man!
I already have one too many rods so thought id rebuild an existing one which I really liked the blank off a bit differently. The blank from what I gather is 99% carbon 2 piece with a nice action and weight but had cheaper no name components.
Out came the dremel and I managed to cut away the seat and grips with out harming the blank and strip the guides off. Cleaned up the blank with some wet and dry sandpaper on the power wrapper which worked a treat.
Ordered some more fuji alconite ss guides, thread and trims etc from mudhole and got to work. Some inspiration from MIB with the downlocking hood also...cheers for the tips!
I use left hand reels so set my spiral to wrap around the right hand side of the blank , decided not to counter rotate the second guide as i didn't want to compromise casting with this rod too much, ended up adding an extra guide or 2 to give me what I wanted..
And here's some pics of how it came out..
Bit of a steep learning curve using lighter coloured thread but came out alright..Used prowrap 'A' underbined with neon orange and black over with an orange spiral..
downlocking hood..
cork butt..
Prefer using these plastic folding fuji hook keepers so didn't bother with a metal one this time..pewter thread above the foregrip with black and orange trim.
epoxied..
No underbined on the smaller guides just added an orange trim band top and bottom after finishing the actual wrap..
Considering I used an existing blank pretty happy with the final result..
Cheers for looking..
rosewood..
