I would like to buy a good quality rod for this reel i would like to stick with shimano would be fishing for snapper most of the time and with the odd kingfish.

If you're prepared to look beyond Shimano and want a quality rod have a look at the Rodworks range. The 10kg Executive would probably be a good fit. My 300 is on an older Elite 8-12 - awesome combo.
