A busy day out on the Tasman yesterday . Just about a queue of boats at the South Channel at 8am . Chucked an array of Skippy and Albie lures in at 70m and got the first big 5kg Skippy taking the ever reliable CD9 Rapala at 80m. Had a Marlin in the gear at 90m, but probably our lures were too small to induce a strike. After a number of triple hookup chaos sessions we hooked a marlin briefly at 100m . It had grabbed a skippy that had just taken the smallest little Williamson feather Jethead lure. Within seconds it was 20m off our beam, thrashing around trying to wolf down the jumbo Skippy. It then shot off tail walking around the back of the boat at which point the 10kg line snapped . Great sight though. Saw lots of surface splashing at 60m in green water on the way back in so put the lures back in in the hope of some Albacore but it was more Skippies. Tried for snapper at 30m off Hamiltons Gap with not a touch so came back in to the 50m Paratutae hole, but it looked like sharks had taken over for the day.
