leave your boat at home, access is very limited and fuel is just about non existent unless you haul it in there

There is a road at Monowai,  Lake monowai road >> then Borland road , that leads out to a boatramp / wharf at doubtful sound, gains you access to  thompson and bradshaw sounds.

If you are careful and the weathers fine you can sneak around to Breaksea sounds and access Dusky sound for awesome puka fishing like most people in nz never get to experience.

We used to organise a local helicopter company to organise petrol drops at supper cove hut, they can do 200 litres at a time.

There is always the famous blanket bay hotel in doubtful sound to refuel at as well.
Not been down that way for a while though so research before heading over.

If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito in your tent.

I just wanted to say and save anyone the hassle that the above is not correct. You cannot get into doubtful sound by road, especially towing a boat as described.

Only option is to launch into lake Manapouri (usually pearl harbour) then boat across to west arm. From there you need to know someone or hire a boat trailer over the Wilmont saddle and down into deep cove.

Milford is easy, ramp is not too bad on everything other than dead low. Concrete public ramp. Lots of kayaks usually. Limited fuel in there so take jerry cans.
