Hi Kerren, yes there were plenty of Trevally and Kahawaii in close to the rocks but us spearos saw bugger all snapper there. I think the landbased guys using berley and waiting it out had the answer .We envied them in the sun while we were shivering in the 13-14 DEGREE water Brrr! And no we did not dive near them or in their berley trails. My motto is if they are their first and are landbased they deserve the spot.
Out of 6 guys diving all day we only managed one decent snapper (5.3kg).Must say the underwater territory at the end of Takatu was perfect for big snapper.
